Peer came to life when former Salesforce COO George Hu approached us with a new vision for professional feedback. He saw that most large companies used quarterly or 360 reviews, which can be irregular, inefficient, and notoriously anxiety-inducing.
We threw out any assumptions and dug in – examining what works and what leaves people scratching their heads. Employers were often unaware that a critical team member had one foot out the door, while employees craved more continuous, concrete feedback on their work. No one was satisfied with the status quo.

Continuous, real-time, social reviews
We realized that for feedback to be truly useful, it has to come from the people who know you best. We built Peer to connect with your company calendar and scan for your most frequent meeting contacts. Those are the people who can effectively (yet anonymously) review how you work.

Gamifying the give-and-take
The challenge was clear: what would compel users to review a co-worker’s performance? Tying it to their own professional feedback. We created a system that progressively unlocks your profile categories as you interact with the application. Review a co-worker’s strengths and you’ll soon unlock your personal strengths page. We set up seven feedback categories, each with an interactive, game-style action that feels fluid and fun.

Deceptive simplicity
Through a series of quick iterations, we trimmed the process down to three areas: performance, career path and relationships. It was important not to overwhelm users, while providing tangible feedback in their categories of choice. The goal was to balance refined simplicity (hiding the app’s significant complexity) with surprising interactions that would keep users coming back for more.
We kept refining until the process felt playful and fun. Peer brings the continuous feedback experience of a fitness tracker to the workplace. It shines on mobile and delivers visual surprises at every turn. From the boardroom to lunchroom, Peer is starting new conversations about how we’re doing at work – and how we can all get better.
